Etna eruption updates, February 2015 (Italy time = UTC+1)

Tuesday 3 January 2015:

Tremor has decreased since yesterday.

Be careful, volcanoes are still complicated to forecast and wrong predictions are possible. Also, this is short term predictions. These are the most likely scenarios but everything is possible.

Monday 2 January 2015:

Strombolian and lava effusive activity originate from the SE crater (see photo and photo). This important lava effusion feeds an impressive lava flow.
The lava flow has been taking a path to the SW, passing the 2002 cones on their western side and descending already to approx. 2000 m or less altitude, a few km west of the provincial road to La Sapienza.

Tremor remains high so I think activity will continue at a similar rate in the next day or so.

steam plume suggests that activity will continue in the next day or so and that explosivity will remain around VEI=1 (hawaian to strombolian).

Sunday 1 January 2015:

It seems that the intense strombolian eruptions are going on from a vent between the old and New SE crater, feeding a lava flow at least 2.5 km long onto the southwestern slope. See the photo of this new lava flow taken from Catania.

Saturday 31 January 2015:

Today, an increase in tremor has been noticed, it may announce a new paroxysm coming soon.
